The Rev. Cynthia Fierro Harvey is the first bishop to be elected by the 2012 South Central Jurisdiction of The United Methodist Church. Now deputy general secretary for the United Methodist Committee on Relief, Harvey was elected on the fifth ballot during the July 18-21 meeting in Oklahoma City.

Harvey, a member of the Texas Conference, is one of three bishops the jurisdictional conference delegates will elect between now and Friday evening. The new bishops will be consecrated in a service at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City on July 21. Each of the new and continuing bishops will begin their assignments on Sept. 1.
